Miami Art Week 2026: how I’m planning Art Basel week
Art Basel Miami Beach runs December 4–6, 2026. How I’m planning Miami Art Week: the fair, free art around the city, getting around and what to wear.

Every December, Miami turns into the art capital of the world for a week. Galleries fly in from every continent, new murals appear overnight, and the whole city feels like one long opening night. This year, Art Basel Miami Beach takes place from December 4 to 6, 2026, and I’ve already started planning.
Here’s how I’m approaching it, and how you can enjoy Miami Art Week whether you have a fair ticket or not.
What Miami Art Week actually is
Art Basel Miami Beach is the main event: a huge international art fair at the Miami Beach Convention Center, with hundreds of galleries showing modern and contemporary art. It’s the American edition of Art Basel, which began in Basel, Switzerland.
Around it, the whole city joins in. Design Miami, a fair for collectible design, takes place right next to the convention center, and dozens of satellite fairs, pop-up exhibitions and brand events appear across Miami Beach, Wynwood, Miami’s street-art neighborhood, and the Design District. That whole week is what locals call Miami Art Week.
Step one: pick your priorities
The biggest mistake I made my first year was trying to see everything. You can’t. So now I choose three things a day, maximum, and leave room for surprises.
My list this year:
- One full day at the fair. Art Basel is ticketed, so I’ll book through the official website as early as I can.
- One day of free art. Murals in Wynwood, public art in the Design District and the museums I love.
- One shoot with Kai. My best friend Kai, who shoots most of my photos, and I always plan one Art Week shoot. The city is full of color and creativity that week, and it shows in the pictures.
Step two: plan around the traffic
During Art Week, the causeways between Miami and Miami Beach get very busy, and ride-share waits get longer. A few things that help:
- Stay on one side of the bay each day: Miami Beach one day, the mainland the next.
- Use the free Metromover in downtown and Brickell, Miami’s downtown financial district, and the free local trolleys where they run.
- Walk when you can. Many of the fairs and galleries are close to each other.
- Leave earlier than you think you need to. Always.
Step three: free art you shouldn’t skip
You don’t need a fair ticket to have a great Art Week. Some of my favorite free options:
- The streets of Wynwood. Artists often paint new murals just before Art Week, so even familiar walls can surprise you. I wrote an afternoon guide to Wynwood if you want a route.
- The Design District. Public art, beautiful store architecture and installations that change for the week.
- ICA Miami. The Institute of Contemporary Art in the Design District has long offered free admission with a timed reservation, so book ahead.
- Museum Park. A waterfront park downtown, home to the Pérez Art Museum Miami, known as PAMM, and the Frost Science museum. Check ticket details for the museums before you go; the park itself is a lovely place to walk by the bay.
Step four: dress for long days
December is one of the best months for weather in Miami: highs in the mid 70s °F (about 24 °C), lower humidity and breezy evenings. But Art Week days are long, and you’ll be on your feet from morning to night.
My Art Week formula:
- Comfortable, stylish shoes. Clean sneakers, loafers or flat sandals. Convention center floors are unforgiving.
- One strong piece. A great blazer, a bold color or a statement earring. People really dress up for Art Week, and it’s fun to play.
- A light layer. The fair and the galleries are air-conditioned, and evenings by the water get breezy.
- A small crossbody bag. Hands free, with room for your phone, a water bottle and a portable charger.

Step five: take care of yourself
Art Week is inspiring, but it’s a lot. I schedule real meals, drink more water than I think I need, and give myself one quiet evening at home in the middle of the week. Sunset at South Pointe, at the southern tip of Miami Beach, is my reset button, even in the busiest week of the year.
Why it matters to me
As someone building my own fashion label, Art Week is a masterclass in color, texture and storytelling. I always come home with a full camera roll, a notebook of ideas and at least one new color I want to try. Some of those ideas end up on my mood boards, and some end up in my gallery.
Will you be in Miami for Art Week? Tell me your plans in the chat. I’d love to compare lists.
